Host Environment Setting

Prepare Ubuntu computer​

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) is recommended, with following specifications. More is better.

  • CPU: 4 Core
  • RAM: 8/16GB RAM
  • Storage: 400 GB
  • Swap space: 16 GB

Verified on Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04, and 24.04 LTS.
You can also use Ubuntu virtual machine for compiling, but use native Ubuntu machine for flashing.

Install packages​

sudo apt update
sudo apt install bash bmap-tools cpp device-tree-compiler gdisk libxml2-utils \
  python3 tar udisks2 usbutils zstd
info

python3.12 or newer is required for compiling images.
Follow below commands to upgrade to python3.12 on Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04. And check python version at the end.

sudo apt-get update 
sudo apt-get install -y software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:deadsnakes/ppa -y
sudo apt-get install -y \
        python3.12 \
        python3.12-venv \
        python3.12-dev
sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/python3 python3 /usr/bin/python3.12 100
