Flash Demo Image
Update UEFI firmware
When JetPack version is changed, you also need to update UEFI firmware.
If UEFI firmware and system image are not matched, device can't boot up.
Please refer Update UEFI firmware from demo image
Prerequisites
For flash requirement, use a native x86-64 Ubuntu 24.04 host. Avoid flashing from a virtual machine, container, WSL environment, or through an external USB hub. Connect device to USB slot on host PC directly.
On an Ubuntu 24.04 desktop host, disable automatic mounting of removable media before flashing. The Orin flashing flow exposes storage over USB, and desktop automount can interfere with it:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount false
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount-open false
Flash demo images steps
1. Prepare demo images
Download TechNexion prebuilts demo image, or follow this guide to compile your demo image.
TechNexion prebuilt demo images:
| Product | Demo image |
|---|---|
| TEK7000-ORIN-NX | JP72 Coming Soon |
| TEK7000-ORIN-NANO | JP72 Coming Soon |
2. Unpack the flash tarball
Make an empty directory, and unpack *.tegraflash-tar.zst file.
mkdir -p ~/jetson-flash && cd ~/jetson-flash
tar xf demo-image-full-${MACHINE}.rootfs.tegraflash-tar.zst
Use a fresh empty directory if you unpack more than one target so the contents don’t mix.
Clean files in flash directory:
cd ~/jetson-flash
rm -rf ./* ./.*
3. Flash demo image
Decide where the storage.
- Flash demo image on TEK-ORIN NVME storage.
- Flash demo image on USB storage.
a. Flash in NVME on TEK-ORIN device
Put the device in recovery mode when using initrd-flash:
- Connect to computer via M-USB1.
- Plug the storage you want to flash system image.
- Press 'Recovery' button and 'Reset' button at the same time.
- Release 'Reset' button.
- Release 'Recovery' button.
- Check wether the device is connected.
$ lsusb -d 0955:
Bus 001 Device 040: ID 0955:7323 NVIDIA Corp. T234 [Orin NX 16GB] recovery mode
Flash all images, include update uefi firmware.
sudo ./initrd-flash
Only flash qspi.
sudo ./initrd-flash --qspi-only
Only flash NVME storage on device
sudo ./initrd-flash --external-only
b. Flash in USB storage
The USB storage devices have preferably 64GB or more.
Plug-in USB storage on host machine, and find USB storage block device.
lsblk -d
The output example as sdc:
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
sdc 8:32 1 58.4G 0 disk
Flash demo image via doexternal.sh
sudo ./doexternal.sh /dev/sdc -y
Be absolutely sure that the block device name you specify is correct! Do not accidentally erase/overwrite filesystems on your host system!
